Sew Crafty Friday

To see more Sew Crafty projects, head on over to Waiting for Him. And, while you're there, enter your own crafty project!

This week, Meagan had her very first sewing lesson on the machine. Prior to this, I had taught her to sew a button, but that was it. Just a bit before Christmas, she bought this doll dress sewing kit from Vision Forum. She was so excited to get started, but the time just wasn't right until this week.

The kit was great. The dress was simple to make and included the fabric we needed. Although the instructions were fairly clear and simple, it definitely needed some sewing experience to be able to decipher some of it. Of course, that's what I'm here for!
Here she is working on it. She was having so much fun. And yes, her tongue always sticks out like that when she's working.
And here is the final product. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Meagan, of course, is now planning enough projects for the future to keep her busy indefinitely.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. My daughter keeps begging me to teach her how to sew doll clothes. I barely know how to sew myself! This looks great. Did you find it to be fairly simple?

Oh, that is so cute! Meagan did a wonderful job.
Dolls are so much fun to sew for. I used to make dresses all the time for my daughter's "Molly" doll. (Molly resides in the attic now, since my daughter is 23.)
If you take the skirt part of the fabric, you could make a petticoat to match--just put elastic in the waist.
PS...fun as doll clothes are, some of those tiny seams can be difficult. I'm very impressed by how nice the sleeves look!

Hi, again. I just took a look at your sewing projects. You do beautiful work--those bonnets are precious!
I just love the picture of the baby in the laundry basket. When my youngest was little, I sat him in a laundry basket (under a big umbrella) when we went to the beach. It only worked the one summer he was sitting up but not yet crawling.
I wonder if the first person to make a laundry basket chose the size just so a baby could fit inside? Or, maybe...the first laundry basket started out as a bassinette, LOL?

The doll dress is awesome! I wish I had spent more time teaching my daughter to sew, don't know why I didn't. She is learning to sew now though! I love farm life. You sound like you are having a great time.

I had to go look at the baby in the laundry basket too! Cute! I'm alot older than you, but when I was a baby my grandparents babysat me and they put me in a bucket with blankets stuck down around me so I could sit up and look around. We had no walker, etc.

Your daughter looks so proud (as she should be) of her accomplishment; very cute. I think my own daughter would love that kit- and her birthday is coming up, so now I want to order the it.

She did an awesome job! And it's great to know the pattern is a good one - I was considering ordering one for my daughter. :-)
