Here is a little something I'm currently working on. They are Christmas gift bags. In an effort to reduce the amount of waste we generate, I had this idea of making cloth bags for our gifts. That way, we can reuse them every year and we don't have a trashbag full of wrapping paper at the end of the day. I hate the phrase "going green", but I suppose that's what I'm doing.
Anyway, the bag is really easy to make. I just finish the edges that will be the top open part by folding over twice & stitching. Then, I face the insides together & stitch around, leaving the top open, of course. Turn right side out, iron it out, and add a ribbon, which I stitch on about 2 inches from the top (leaving room to gather it together & tie). It takes about 10 minutes once you have the fabric cut out. Here is what it looks like.
And here is a bag stuffed with a gift & tied up.
I love the look of them & it makes me feel better to not waste all that paper. Besides, I have tons of Christmas fabric that was desperate for purpose.
