Itchin' to dig

Spring seems like a million years away when your garden looks like this...
But, my seed order from Baker's Creek has come. And with it, hope! Hope that in a few short weeks (probably shorter than I can imagine), I'll be starting again. Feeling the black dirt in my hands. Getting my nails stained for the season. Placing those tiny seeds in the soil, knowing that somehow, miraculously, they'll grow into huge plants ready to feed our family. In fact, I started some onions from seeds this year and have already felt that euphoria of walking by my flats to spy little green shoots starting to emerge. There will be watering and mulching and weeding and de-bugging and staking...all with the greatest thrill of all in the end. The harvest. The harvest of beautiful ripe tomatoes, sweet yellow corn, tasty potatoes all hiding underground, zucchinis as big as my leg.

Gardening...it's the world's greatest drug.

You make me long for spring even more! Of course, more snow days mean more days to quilt:))

I agree with you. Usually I LOVE winter but this year I am NOT feeling it. I am ready for spring. Last year was the very first year we did any kind of gardening. We planted 2 little tomato plants and loved it. This year we are hoping to go bigger. We rent our house and have a small yard but I want to do as much as possible with it. :)

Hands in the dirt gives me a direct line to God. And believe me, I need that direct line.....quick!
